A ribbon of green wilderness flows through the communities of El Sobrante and San Pablo, connecting the hills to San Pablo Bay and San Francisco Bay. San Pablo Creek and its tributaries escaped the fate of many urban streams, and have not been relegated to underground culverts for much of their length. Instead they hide beneath a cloak of trees, harboring fish, birds and other wildlife amidst urban surroundings. Occasionally emerging into view at a bridge or park, they allow us access to the calming influence of flowing water and green shade. Community members have come together as advocates for the creeks, to protect them, restore their banks, and help others learn about and appreciate our creeks.
